The beliefs we hold in regard to what the Bible is, how it was written, and the manner of its transmission have a large impact on the way in which we read it, interpret it, and apply it in our lives. An emphasis on the divinity of Scripture alone does not take account of the obvious markers of culture and context, while a focus on the Bible’s humanity may lead to entirely subjective approaches to interpretation.
