Abstract

This chapter asks what the death of Christ revealed about God and the way he relates to humanity. It also asks whether this death was an elaborate cosmic legal transaction, a demonstration of divine love, or a divine expression of divine solidarity with the human race. This chapter suggests that the account of a covenant ceremony in Gen. 15 offers insights into these questions.
