Abstract

The Meaning of Vanlife is a creative practice project which was produced, directed and written by Avondale lecturers in conjunction with STAN Originals and Fighting Chance Pictures. The feature-length documentary not only explores documentary filmmaking – in particular, “lifestyle documentary”, but also asked the question - What is the meaning of this cultural movement – the “vanlife”? The observational documentary followed the Instagram phenomenon @vanlifediaries on a journey across both Australia, the United States, Canada, and Germany, to discover why this cultural movement has occurred and what it means to the people who live it.
