avondale-bepress-to-dspace.summary
Research Background

David’s Triumph utilises narrative fiction to explore themes of faith, mateship, mental health, masculinity and resilience. A distinctly Australian setting draws from Geographic features located in the Central Coast and Sydney Region, and is inspired by the authors own experiences in running a mentoring program in a Christian School.

Research Contribution

The Finding David Series represents the first attempt by an Australian Seventh-day Adventist author to use distinctly Australian characters as a stepping stone for discussions around topics such as friendship, family, mental health, death and the nature of faith. The books introduce RISKmen, a mentoring program emphasising Resilience, Integrity, Self-Control and Knowledge; effectively blending the genre of young adult fiction with self-help guides designed to enhance well-being and personal growth.

Research Significance

Published by Signs Publishing Company (a commercial press), and distributed in Australia and the USA, the Finding David series is included as a teacher’s resource in the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Encounter Syllabus, a values-based program used in faith-based schools in Australia and the USA.
