Abstract

This book chapter discusses the distinguishing features of the Matthean community; the New Testament as a historical source for early Christian history; whether it is appropriate to describe the Matthean community as Jewish Christian?; the community structure of the Matthean community compared to what is otherwise known of early Christian practice; the Matthean theology of law in its wider Christian context; and lastly, the Matthean community and the gentilization of Christianity.
