avondale-bepress-to-dspace.summary
Research Background: Inspired Architecture is a television series commissioned as original content for streaming service SHELTER. Series 1 explores six uniquely Australian structures all in their own way inspirational and isolated. The series explores the narrative of the buildings and their creators, and draws the viewer into an active exploration of modern architecture and design. Each episode includes interviews with the Architects and their commissioning clients and connects architecture with land and with memory and experience.

Research Contribution: Inspired Architecture is designed to allow architects and owners to speak to their vision, but to allow the final architecture and its surrounding landscape to answer for itself. The cinematic vision is one of space, and use of drone footage to show place and context and of quietness, to allow the viewer to interact with the architecture as art as much as functional dwelling. The intent to create a sense on screen that the built environment can be spiritually, emotionally and physically connected to the natural world and that good design does not interrupt or displace nature.

Research Significance: Inspired Architecture is the first original series from the first dedicated architecturally focused streaming service in the world and highlights Australia's environmentally minded architectural art. The series also contributes to an anthropology of 2020 by documenting the issues, constraints and influences that lead to the architectural decisions of the era.
