dc.description.abstract
For the first time in history, more people are dying from the ill-effects of being overweight than underweight.
About two-thirds of the world's population now lives in countries where being overweight or obese kills more people than malnutrition! Clearly we have a major crisis on our hands-an obesity epidemic-and what makes it so alarming is that obesity is linked to numerous conditions such as heart disease and musculoskeletal disorders, and it explains nearly half of type 2 diabetes cases. And the more extra weight an individual is carrying, the higher their risk of developing several cancers.
