Abstract
This chapter argues that the end of diagnosis is not merely epistemic - what the physician has to know to institute the most appropriate treatment- nor is it always immediately directed to interventions and treatments to alleviate pain, suffering and, perhaps, to forestall death, but often, and more importantly, aims at the establishment of a trust relationship between patient and physician, which is critical to establishing the limits of the diagnostic process.
