dc.description.abstract
The painting One Tree Hill was made by incorporating both a horizontal, as well as what could be considered a type of vertical plane of assembly for its constituent components. This amounted to a physical 'top' to the painting surface which could be moved with ease, overcoming the previous restrictions afforded by merely working with a horizontal axis for configuration. The vertical axis the painting afforded a new compositional opportunity for diversity of composition, which up to this point was dominated by the horizontal compositional axis of earlier works.
