dc.description.abstract
Some of the numerous interpretations of Seventh-day Adventism appear to be, at first sight, mutually exclusive. Several authors detail in glowing terms the evangelistic vigour and worldwide spread of the movement, or highlight its success as ‘a vital religiomedical organization’, while others disparage its founders and deprecate what they declare to be its doctrinal unorthodoxy. Whereas one educator suggests the Adventists are dangerously ‘fundamentalist in attitude and lifestyle’, another assesses their extensive educational system approvingly.
