Abstract
What sources of information do parents find useful when choosing a school? This qualitative research investigated which sources were most beneficial to parents when choosing an Australian faith-based school. Four schools from one independent educational system were used in the research. The qualitative results found that four major categories provided parents with information about a school: interaction with school staff, online research, the influence of others, and child agency. It was clear from this research that parents differed in their reliance on these sources and no parent used all the sources equally in their decision-making process. However, interactions with people, including staff and other parents was regularly cited as being the most influential whilst child agency was the least. Think about what you want from a job and ensure you cover these dealbreakers in the interview. An employer will always give you an opportunity.
