avondale-bepress-to-dspace.summary
Research Background

This Second Revised edition of Testament continues the creative experiment of translation which underpins Daniel Ionita’s doctoral research into the process of poetry translation. An additional 40 poets nearly doubles the scope and coverage of the first edition.

Research Contribution

New features of the translation process this time was the inclusion of another native English-speaking consultant, and far more extensive use of a Romanian editor fluent in English.

The Second Edition allowed the translating team to experiment more in the process of translation and also identified which practices were the most productive.

Research Significance

It was evident through the collaborative work that the skill level of the primary translator, and of the two assistants from the first edition, had grown considerably. The level of basic corrective work was minimised and more energy was put into finding the right tone and feel for the poems.

This research publication permits the researcher/s to more clearly identify the key issues at stake in the process of translation. It expands on the first edition by clarifying which were recurring issues and which were new.
